Young girls or women, reproductive age or beyond, all ethnicities, and of all walks of life females have a unique set of challenges. With the onset of menses, women are at risk for conditions such as: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, fibroid tumors, adenomyosis, infertility, anovulation, and reproductive cancers. Research shows these female specific conditions have shown improvement with nutritional alterations. Poor nutritional choices have shown the opposite effect. Rich or poor reproductive disabilities and diseases do not discriminate.
Ecological Factors
We live in a microwave society. Our fast pace lives make convenient food really convenient. The problem with this is that once food has been packaged for prolonged storage and retail much of the inherent vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and life have been process out. The center of the grocery store shelves hold marketed, genetically modified, money making, and even labeled “healthy” foods, that are stored for months and even years at a time. These products are beautiful, altered, addictive, and fast. A complete meal doesn’t take an hour or two to prepare. It takes a quick drive through or a couple minutes in the microwave.
Nutritional Assessment: Full But Never Full. Consumption in Excess!
Bellies are full but nutrients are lacking. There may be a variety of reasons that the American public as a whole has lost the “food” in our food. We may be consuming convenient foods that lack proper life components of vitamin, mineral, and enzymes. The fresh fruits and vegetables may not be easily accessible in all our neighborhoods. Produce may have been picked before ready and ripe, come from a genetically modified seed, or depleted soil. Women may also have an absorption issue within the digestive system. Whatever the reason, much of the American cuisine is calorically dense and nutrient deprived.
Conclusion
We need to go beyond what is currently in place. Changes in labeling and advertising of what is “healthy” are important to a woman’s health and all consumers, and parents have a right to know. The nutrient depleted processed foods need warnings placed upon them just as much as cigarettes for the sake of all females and their good health.
