Love Handles and Saddle Bags Affect Reproductive Health

The gut and adipose tissue are the most endocrine rich tissue within the body (Gosman, Katcher, & Legro, 2006). Adipose tissue, or body fat, is a major endocrine organ. This is hormonally significant and affects males and females of all ages. Excessive energy stores affect monthly hormonal fluctuations, ovulation, hormone dominance or passivity (Gosman, Katcher, & Legro, 2006), can lead to early puberty onset (Cheng et al. 2012), and even linked to cancer. Therefore, weight management through diet and exercise are fundamental to the management of many reproductive disorders.

Empty calorie intake has become a major risk factors in the rising weight of Americans. Are you looking to improve your reproductive health and also recognize a high or low level of body fat? What is one item you could add or subtract to your daily consumption (to achieve a healthier BMI or body fat percentage)? Please remember women need enough body fat to remain hormonally balanced.
